You could do your own search marketing so why should you hire someone to do it for you?  Because you'll save time, but more importantly, you'll get more click throughs and also pay less for results obtained. The difference between do-it-yourself and professional is usually enough to make it quite worthwhile. Also, a thorough professional will analyze click inventory for your products before advising you to set up accounts.  Why waste time and money trying if there's no click traffic to work with?

The first page of search returns is often a battlefield populated by powerful warriors with lots of bid money and the will and ambition to overcome.  Though you want to be on that page you may be outclassed.  It doesn't take many hungry giants to push your hits off the first page of results.
